Heat Wave
The following forcast for the week is a far cry from what it has been for the past month. I hope this is the light at end of the tunnel for winter. It was weird not having to wear my winter riding jacket and only one layer instead of the usual 3.

Winter is Definitely Here
It has been colder than a witches tit in a brass brazier this weekend. Now I am no stranger to cold. Having lived and trained during the winter in Ft. Collins it was plenty cold. Cold enough for me to put my water bottles in my jersey under my winter riding jacket just so they wouldn't freeze. For weeks the temp wouldn't go above 30.
Well, I'm using the same tactics of drinking Accelerade slushies and binging extra toe warmers when I ride for longer then 4 hours. Training started back on November the first and this time I am sticking to my plan no matter what. I don't care what the temp is outside and I don't give a damn how hard it rains; I will ride. I invested in some nice nasty weather gear so I can make it bearable and frankly- fun. Yea thats right, I said it's FUN to ride in 15 degrees with 40 mph wind gusts which bring the temp down to zero. Its fun as long as you are comfortable in the nastiest of weathers and have the right mindset. So today I donned my Giro G10 ski helmet and my Oakely ski goggles with a balaclava underneath it all. The next time I wear it I'll post a pic of it cause it does look out of place and quite funny but hey, who cares what you look like when your warm?
For the first time I brought a second pair of toe warmers 'cause these Grabber warmers do not last anywhere near 6 hours. It says 6+ hours, It's more like 3- Hours but they do make or break the ride. We all remember those rides where your toes are so cold you start to think about frostbite. No thanks. Pile on the Grabbers!
The best part of riding in weather like this are the looks people give you. You can almost read their mind: "Is that a guy on a bike? (checks in car temp read out, looks back at cyclist with jaw slack). I did get some cheering from a guy taking out his trash. I'm sure he shook his head a could of times when I went by but hey, it is rare to get positive verbal support. It's the negative support I usually get but still provides motivation!!
Well it looks like the cold weather is here to stay for a couple of weeks. The upcoming forecast says highs of 32 all week. A heat wave when compared to the weather of today! Damn, might even have to get out the sunblock.
